186,000: You lift me, I lift you

Liminal: Creating art in the time of pandemic, chaos,
and possibility My most recent solo exhibit was at the Charles Adams Project Space in Lubbock, Texas. Hosted by both CASP and the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, I was given time and space to recreate and expand upon my 2023 exhibition. I again used paper hospital gowns to create monotype prints that I then drew and painted back into. My installation was updated to reflect the changes in hopefulness I felt a year after coming out of the pandemic. Because the space I worked in for a week was so large, I was finally able to include a re-creation of my studio, an addition to the exhibit that was also my way of explaining through examples, not words, my process of working. During the opening, I noticed how engaged the public was in studying my preliminary sketches, research materials, finished drawings that had not been shown in public, materials, and my actual sketchbooks. While there I was privileged to give a two-day monotype workshop. Comprised of artists, students, and educators, we explored my techniques for creating layers using translucent inks and various materials. Each artist was invited to spend more time with me in the studio and then participate in a pop-up show the following Thursday evening. I re-arranged my "studio" to fill a single wall and installed their exhibit. Their exhibit remained up through the end of mine. It was lovely to see the space shaped and re-shaped during my two weeks in residence. |
